January 3, 2014Check out some interesting new laws for the new year.
- It is a misdemeanor with a minimum fine of $500 for any parent or guardian to allow underage drinking by child’s guest(s) at parent’s home or property. (P.A. – 97-1049)
- Court Supervision will no longer be available to anyone speeding in excess of25 m.p.h. over the limit. (P.A. 97-0831)
- It is a misdemeanor for anyone to fraudulently use a disability placard of a deceased individual, carrying a fine up to $2,500 and revocation of driver’s license. Other misuse of disability placard or license plate will result in increased fines and longer suspension of license. (P.A. 97-0844)
- Records of Reckless Driving arrests occurring prior to age 25 may be expunged or sealed after age 25 if no other serious violations. (P.A. 97-0698)
- Strip clubs that have live nude dancing and offer alcohol must collect $3 per customer for special fund to combat sexual violence and provide counseling. (P.A. 97-1035)
- No person may possess, sell, trade or distribute shark fins in Illinois. (P.A. 97-733)
- It is illegal to use a mobile phone while driving in any construction zone or road maintenance zone, whether or not speed limits are reduced. (P.A. 97-830)
- Licensed daycare centers and daycare homes must be tested for radon every 3 years. (P.A. 97-981)
- Persons must remove aquatic plants or animals from vehicles, seaplane or watercraft before placing them in navigable waters. (P.A. 97-0850)
- Motorcycle operator must keep one hand on handlebars at all times; it is a crime to pop a wheelie while speeding. (P.A. 97-743)
- Drivers of commercial vehicle operators may not use a hand-held mobile device unless stopped on side of road or reporting emergency to law enforcement. (P.A. 97-829)
- Right to Privacy in the Workplace Act – It is unlawful for an employer to request any employee or applicant to provide any password or demand access to any social networking website. (P.A. 97-875)
- “Caylee’s Law” – It is a felony if a parent or guardian fails to report a child age 13 and under missing within 24 hours. Children age 2 and under must be reported missing within one hour. (P.A. 97-} 079)
